Keeping your SMILE at its best!!

Preventive Dentistry

Regular cleanings help to maintain the general good health of your teeth and gums. We are dedicated to give you a thorough and comfortable cleaning and gum treatment.

Education is also a key to maintaining optimum dental health. Our patients always have the opportunity to ask questions and get answers and to be educated on how to take care of their teeth and gums.

Our routine visits include cancer screening. Are you aware that oral cancer affects the lives of over 300,000 people each year? One of the biggest problems in diagnosis of oral cancers has been the detection of the disease in its early stages. This often involved invasive procedures and discomfort for patients. With the advent of a revolutionary procedure call a brush biopsy we can simply brush an area that is of concern, and send it to be evaluated. In the time it took to read this paragraph, the procedure would have been completed. Saving your life can be that easy!

Scaling And Root Planing

Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical procedure that helps prevent tooth decay and other symptoms of progressive gum disease. The treatment removes plaque and tartar deep within gum pockets. It can help treat gum disease by preventing infections from worsening and promoting the healing of soft tissues. Our dental team regularly performs this effective procedure for patients to improve overall gum health.

Oral Cancer Screening

Diagnosis and treatment of oral cancer is crucial in its early stages. In fact, patients can greatly increase their chances of surviving oral cancer if the disease is caught and treated early. At Upper East Side Dental Arts, we use the VELscope® system for oral cancer screening. The process uses a special blue light to illuminate abnormalities that may not be visible to the naked eye. The entire screening takes only about two minutes to complete. The screening is recommended once a year or twice if you smoke. Dr. Trichas offers the screening during routine dental exams for your convenience. Please remember that it is vital to have regular oral cancer screenings, even if you are not exhibiting symptoms.

Dental Cleanings

Dental cleanings are typically part of a routine check-up to help you maintain good oral health. While brushing and flossing are vital steps to help teeth and gums stay healthy, professional cleanings every six months are necessary to remove plaque and tartar to prevent tooth decay. Our dental hygienists do their best to provide you with the most comfortable and thorough dental cleanings possible.

Sealants provide a protective layer over your teeth to help prevent tooth decay on the back teeth. In this treatment, a durable material is placed on the surface of the teeth to protect against bacteria that can enter small crevices. This preventive care option is especially beneficial for children, as it can help keep their growing teeth healthy for a long time.

Root Canal Therapy

Endodontics, also known as root canal therapy, is provided to patients who have a severely damaged tooth and need a more intense treatment to preserve its health. Root canal therapy can ultimately save a tooth from extraction or coming loose. This treatment is essential for badly decayed and damage teeth. If the area gets progressively more infected, it can weaken the immune system and expose you to dangerous health risks. In many cases, a tooth that needs root canal therapy will be the cause of excruciating pain and/or an abscess in the immediate area of the tooth. However, in some cases, you may not experience any symptoms at all, or only minor symptoms such as hot and cold sensitivity or a bad taste in your mouth. During a root canal, the infected tooth root is removed and the nerve chamber is disinfected. The tooth is sealed with strong dental material and then affixed with a permanent dental crown for support and protection. Our dental crowns are custom-designed for the most natural fit and appearance.

Advanced & Non-Surgical Periodontal Care

We offer a variety of non-surgical periodontal procedures to fight the effects of gum disease and enhance the appearance of the gums. With little to no symptoms in its early stages, periodontal disease can lead to serious dental problems and even increase risks to your overall health if left untreated. The severity of the condition lies within the link between oral and systemic health.

The Oral Systemic Link describes the connection between the health of the mouth and body. A person’s oral health often hints at their overall well-being. When periodontal disease has developed, there is oral inflammation that research has shown links to more severe health risks, including heart disease, stroke and diabetes. For this reason, Dr. Trichas constantly stresses the importance of proper dental hygiene and routine checkups.

First Mountain Dental offers advanced laser dentistry options for gum disease treatment and cosmetic gum recontouring that can improve gum conditions in a virtually painless procedure.

Oral Exams

Patients should get routine dental exams twice a year to detect and treat problems before they have the chance to worsen. Within these exams, Dr. Trichas will look for any sign of cavities or damage to the teeth and gums. He may also take x-rays for a more comprehensive view of your teeth. These exams are the main purpose of your dental check-ups and are an important step in maintaining your oral health.

Family Dental Care

First Mountain Dental offers effective treatments for patients of all ages. We strive to provide the most comfortable care, as we know dental visits can be intimidating to children (and even many adults!). While their teeth are still developing, we educate children on the importance of good dental hygiene, so they can continue to properly maintain healthy and happy smiles. In addition to patient education, we offer preventive procedures such as fluoride treatments, sealants, dental cleanings, and many other options to help with stopping dental issues from occurring before they begin.

Fluoride Treatments

Although fluoride treatments are emphasized for children, they are beneficial for all ages to promote good overall dental health. The oral rinses are usually done after your routine teeth cleanings. Their purpose is to help prevent cavities and tooth decay by minimizing bacteria from forming on teeth and gums. Make sure to ask about fluoride treatments at your next checkup for added protection against gum disease.

Infection Control

Patient health is our focus, and this includes adhering to exceptional infection control standards. At First Mountain Dental we follow rigid safety and cleaning practices to ensure high quality patient care. We use sterilized tools for each dental treatment and, whenever possible, disposable materials to eliminate the potential for spreading of germs. In addition to a safe treatment process, our practice environment is routinely cleaned and disinfected for your comfort and protection.

Mercury Free Dentistry – Tooth-Colored Fillings

Mercury is known to be a toxic material that causes many health risks, even at small levels. While mercury-based materials were the standard in dental practices for many years for procedures such as fillings, Upper East Side Dental Arts does not use mercury in any of our procedures. Our tooth-colored filling procedures utilize a composite resin that contains no mercury or amalgam materials, which is not only better for your health but also results in virtually unnoticeable fillings.

If you have an amalgam filling, Dr. Trichas can remove and replace it with a tooth-colored filling. Typically, our patients find the new filling material to be much more aesthetically pleasing!
